Local authors! We’re Katie and Joe, a married couple who have both been writing, designing, and publishing zines for many years. We love to go for long walks around our beloved city for exercise and for fun. To make this zine, we first think of a walk we want to take, then plot the route on a GPS map, strap on our audio recording equipment, and start walkin’! When we get back home we write up our impressions of the walk, including the interesting landmarks and funny encounters we had along the way. What started as a 32-page zine idea has become a 100-page book!
We began work on this zine in February, and to our surprise it has become, in part, a chronicle of the dramatic changes we’ve been experiencing in our world and in the city we love. Once the quarantine started, a lot of the things we loved to do were no longer possible: no dance parties, no concerts, no visits with friends. But one of the things we can still do is take our walks. First thing in the morning; late in the evening; on large streets that have been closed to car traffic; in the city’s huge park system, much of which is wooded; and on little residential blocks: Our walks have been there for us, helping us heal our bodies and emotions. Please come along and join us as we take in the wonderful city of Philadelphia.
