The Selkie Book Club

A book club for strange stories about doors behind doors & mystical beings & fantastical quests & shimmering sorrow & swords in stones & above all, magic. The Selkie Book Club at The Spiral Bookcase is a monthly gathering focused on adult fiction that asks the reader to shed their skin for a moment or two. From folklore-inspired modern myths to supernatural & scintillating prose, the Selkie Book Club’s selection varies each month, but always promises to be strange & magical.

Read all the books, read one or two, come every month or only when the fancy strikes you! The goal of this book club is to re-enchant your love of reading :) As such, there's only a few rules:

- No racism, sexism, homophobia or transphobia.
- You're allowed to dislike a book! Just be (mostly) polite about it :)
- Come hungry to discuss & devour all aspects of a story.
- Please make sure you join the Zoom call no later than 7:50 PM, or you may not be able to join at all :(

The Selkie Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM EST via Zoom. To join the club, we simply ask that you purchase the month’s title through The Spiral Bookcase. We’ll collect your email at purchase and send you all the details on that month’s meeting!

Already purchased the book from the shop or another indie bookstore? Just email us at spiralbookcase@gmail.com and let us know you already have the book but would like to join!

Visually impaired and need to use audiobooks? You can purchase Selkie titles through our LibroFM page. Then, simply forward the purchase confirmation email to spiralbookcase@gmail.com and let us know you'd like to join.

Do you already own the book, but didn't purchase it from the shop or another indie bookstore? Please purchase a Book Club Ticket to join us!

Please visit the EVENTS PAGE for information on monthly meetings.

We are always happy to provide books for our community members who aren't able to afford them! Just us email us at spiralbookcase@gmail.com or come by the shop!
